In cooling season, a ductless head removes moisture as it cools and drains it outside, which usually clears up summer condensation on its own. Keep the room between 45 and 55 percent relative humidity and the sweating stops. In heating season, condensation on the inside of the glass means indoor humidity is too high for that surface temperature. Air movement from the head helps. Most sunrooms have exactly one usable wall, the one shared with the house. High on that wall, angled so air sweeps along the glass, is the placement we choose most often. Washing the windows with airflow beats blowing into the middle of the room because the glass is where the load actually is.

When that wall is taken up by a door or a bank of transoms, two alternatives work. A floor mounted unit tucks under the window line, sits low, and throws warm air across the floor, which feels better in winter. A ceiling cassette disappears into the roof structure entirely when there is depth to hide it. Line set routing matters here too. We run it inside the wall when framing allows and use a finished line hide cover outside when it does not, kept on the least visible elevation.

Turning the room into real square footage

The reason people spend the money is not the equipment. It is getting a room back. Once the swings are gone, a sunroom stops being seasonal storage and becomes a breakfast room, an office, or the place the dog sleeps in the sun. Furniture and rugs stop mildewing. Houseplants stop dying in January.
